Glidehouse by Michelle Kaufmann

Glidehouse is designed by Michelle Kaufmann. Through the implementation of sustainable design and solar, geothermal, or wind generator equipment, the Glidehouse modular home provides owners with reduced, if not eliminated, utility bills. The Glidehouse could be situated in a rural area, and through the use of solar, geothermal or wind generating equipment, it would not need to be connected to electricity lines, therefore reducing the long term cost of ownership and widening the range of potential building sites.
Glidehouse factory costs vary according to number of bedrooms and the size of the house. The factory costs start at $140 per square foot, and go up with upgraded materials. For example, a recent 135 square foot, two bedroom, two bath version of a Glidehouse, with the standard options including Milgard glass doors and windows, bamboo flooring and cedar siding, cost approximately $178,000.
