Tigerlily Boutique Hotel, Edimbourg

Edinburgh’s hippest boutique hotel, Tigerlily opened in June 2006. It is the meeting place for the Edinburgh jet set, food lovers and hedonist.

This authentic classified building with perfect neo-classical symmetry is on the illustrious George Street. And even if this new establishment could be called postmodern for its anachronistic daring and extravagant polychromatic fabrics from the Designers Guild, it still maintains its Georgian underpinnings with its high ceilings, sculpted cornices, and oak woodwork.

All the Standard Rooms are equipped very well indeed so don’t be fretting about going ‘coach’. bedrooms are over 3 floors, with those on the 1st floor having much higher, period ceilings, often with intricate cornice plasterwork. So the 2nd floor rooms are not quite so tall but are perhaps crosier.

The two Georgian Suites has modern customized furniture, plasma screens, i pods and other high tech items, along with plate sized shower heads, to the canopied beds vast enough to be lost in, kitsch mirrors and various ancient objects. In the other seven suites rooms:pink wallpaper and sofas, armchairs with turquoise arabesques, Plexiglas chairs against solid wood floors.

Step up from the smart street and into a dark matt-painted hall, complete with the first of many extravagant floral displays, and a glass door reveals to the left the glittering Georgian Bar with its white glass ‘cloud light’, fuchsia-pink seating, sense of richness, and a whole wall of tiny mirror tiles.
