Dolder Grand Hotel in Zürich

Designed in 1899 by Jacques Gros, the Zürich’s Dolder Grand Hotel has a wonderful city location overlooking Lake Zürich and the Alps. The health/spa hotel has been re-invented as a modern luxury hotel by a famous team of architects from London’s Foster and Partners, by United Designers, also of London, and by spa-industry visionary, Arizona-based Sylvia Sepielli, for the spa concept.

The four top-level suites are inspired by four famed guests. The upper level, 4,300 square-foot (400 square-meter) Maestro Suite channels the style of Herbert von Karajan. The sweeping two-level suite features classical undertones with red leather chairs, dark timbers, a circular tower dining room, pale-marble bathrooms with whirlpools and steam showers (one is equipped a sauna), big windows and a lounge-style terrace.

The Swiss surrealist painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti was the main inspiration for the Carezza Suite on the spa top floor. Furnishings inspired by his sculptures and organic shapes contribute to create a peaceful feel, complemented by the neutral colors and the vibrant fireplace. The two-bedroom suite has a separate TV lounge, a stylish living room and marble bathrooms.

Also on the top spa floor, the Masina Suite gets its inspiration from Giulietta Masina, actress and wife of director Federico Fellini. Deep nlue lue and contrasting white created an atmosphere of elegance and glamour. The Fendi sofa and flat-screen TV are perfect to watch film noir movies. The retro vibe of the Suite 101 is very different, with its orange sofas, dark wood panels and pink furniture which were inspired by the Rolling Stones.
