Strange Gel Remote Concept by Panasonic
This may be the strangest remote control we’ve ever seen. With the push of a button, this remote becomes rigid and ready for use.
When it’s not in use, this concept remote just sort of lays there limp, pulsating with light. But when you touch it, the remote gets excited and becomes rigid.
Constructed of a soft, flesh-like gel, the remote appears cold when off. Once turned on, however, it seems to come to life. A soft light emanates somewhere from within as the center of the device begins to slowly rise and fall, mimicking the tranquil motions of breath. Left undisturbed, the remote will slumber peacefully. Buth should a human hand approach, sensors inside alert it to the imminent touch. It stops breathing, grows rigid – the light from within is extinguished.

Wounder if anyones thought about this materials applications within the field of robotics. it is after all a nearly life like muscle material that presumably contracts to go stiff and loostens when it goes limp. Say goodbye to all those metalic cybernetic limb concepts, put a silicone layer over it and you even reduce the chance of the body rejecting it, just have to find away to make the human body heal around it inorder to avoid a permanant open wound.

This is really cool. I skimmed the comments and noticed all of the penis remarks, and yes, a penis does get get hard, and get soft. Like flexing or using any other muscle in the body. I find this to be very cool, such technology used in as simple of a device like a remote control. The only thing that bothers me would be the price, how much would this cost? Yes, it is cool, but 39.99 would be the very most I would pay, and that would take a lot for me to even pay that much. It just seems like a great idea on a simple tool.

Possibly the dumbest thing I’ve seen lately.
That’s just what I want, for my TV remote to be an inexplicably creepy lump of synthetic tissue.
I can understand working on the technology behind it, the integration of small motors and joints into a flesh-like base, but why use it for a remote of all things? Have people been complaining that their remotes aren’t fleshy enough? Is that really a common concern?
Maybe the tech guys at Panasonic just had no choice but to make their work into something TV-related to avoid letting it slip that they spend all their time at work inventing things totally unrelated to their jobs.

Seems to me it would work for a few years then you wouldn’t be able to make it go rigid again. Would you have to buy and upgrade pump later on?
