Capdell Will be Part of the Project Gaia of Eco-City Planning in Barcelona

Capdell will colaborate with the architect Luis de Garrido in the project Gaia with the placement of the chairs Elizabetha and Eboli in the appartment number 3 which has a surface of 361,30m2 and it is located in Barcelona. This project will be finished by March 2010. Capdell consolidates this way its policy of innovation and continues its advances which consist of introducing furniture pieces in the field of “sustainable architecture”.

Gaia 3
The project Gaia consists of seven appartaments which can be visited. This is the most advanced project in Spain regarding Eco-town planning field. This project sets an example for the promotion of sustainable urban development in Spain, which promotes the Asociación Nacional para la Vivienda del Futuro (ANAVIF), along with the Asociación Nacional para la Arquitectura Sostenible (ANAS).
Luis de Garrido wants to create with every new appartment, a new and more adequate urbanism strategy for our society. He adapts new architectural types of building that optimize the use of resources (natural or previously made) which also lower the energy consumption.

It also promotes the use of renewable energies and the decrease of emissions and waste. All this, under the objective of improving the well-being and health of the inhabitants and keeping low building and maintenance.
The single-family appartment Gaia 3, specifically, will have 3 floors, with a structure divided in three parts. The main zone will be a covered patio with two different levels which will provide a vertical communication among all rooms. The appartment will be half-burried and will be disposed in staircase shapes along the hill. This structure will allow covered green areas, that will be a natural continuation of the environment.

Natural resources will be an essential part of the project to make the most of them. Water saving devices will be installed. Furthermore, recycled materials will be used in the construction. The building will warm up by a greenhouse effect and by heat coming from the ground.
