Vertically Moving Floor by Hydrfloors
If you don’t want to waste any space of you swimming pool, this inginious ‘Hydrofloors’ are vertically movable floors that can be raised to different levels or completely to turn the surface of the pool into a usable floor.
Smart and stylish, it is one you had always wished. The system is near invisible, rapidly adaptable and safe.

If you can choose the depth, you could easily convert it between a normal depth pool, and a kiddie pool! Too bad it’s probably ridiculously expensive.

What happens if there’s still water in it and you decide to raise the floor?

WOW I just crapped my pants.

@Mindy
I think the point of this design is to keep the water under the floor.
However…. It must take a while until the floor goes up/down, considering there’s little space (just cracks) for the water to “travel” without splashing everything around.
If I’m wrong about this, I’d like someone to correct me and fill me in on how this works. It’s a good read for other viewers too, I guess…

Seems like a terrible slip hazard.

@Evil1 & Mindy
Evil1 is right, the water is kept under the floor. Often these types of pool have a seperate tank where some of the water is transferred to, to allow the floor to move up through the water without creating a mini flood.
The floors are designed so that the water runs around them and through side ‘vents’ allowing the floor to move fairly rapidly.
I’ve seen these floors change from pool to normal floor in under a minute.

A solution in search of a problem. The money needed to make this work would be far greater than the money needed to build on to the structure and get the additional space. The only potential use for this is in high density areas where the uber wealthy cant buy space at any price. On top of having few if any meaningful uses it isn’t particularly clever. Floors covering a pool have been around about as long as pools and this one is functionally no better than any before it. The only way it even comes across as interesting is if you were to sit there and watch it work. Something no home owner or guest would ever do.

I think for the water displacement issue, the stairs probably come in handy pretty well for allowing water to flow through it, also, there could be gates on the sides of the pool that shut when the floor is down, and open when the water is going out.. it’s just a thought though

Cool idea but I don’t really see much of an advantage to it.

this could be a slipping hazard in the place especially at night. Heck, you might even forget to raise the floor and fall randomly on the pool. But aside from the hazards, this is amazing.

i have been in one of these pools at the children’s hospital of philadelphia. they are really awesome. they change levels pretty quickly. also you can be in the pool when the levels are being changed, it is just recommended that you stand in the center of the pool. seriously this thing is so cool.
