Tablecloth by Ball Nogues Studio

A cloth made from tables. Here is the design of American Ball Nogues Studio. The installation, hanging in the courtyard of Schoenberg Hall, University of California, Los Angeles, gathers 268 tables. Linked together, they form a fabric.

Before assembling, the Buro Happold Los Angeles and Matthew Melnyk preformed a structural engineering and analysis. Visitors will see the cloth unrolling when it meets the ground and will be able to sit on tables and chairs in an area.

The size and materials used offer a reduction of the sound reverberation and alter acoustical phenomena.

After dismantling, the UCLA community will receive the seating and tables. The project brings together the UCLA Department of Architecture and Urban Design, the Herb Albert School of Music, and UCLA design media arts.
