Chair Garden by Nendo

Japan based company Nendo unveiled a new private collection called Chair Garden. Stools growing in pots is the creation of the architect Oki Sato, blowing the mind through an unusual idea.

The installation investigates ways of determining forms, with growing as a base, and not function or system worked out from the proportions of the human body. If a furniture’s function can changes as it grows, we may find new clues or natural design of shapes.

“A stool grows a backrest, and becomes a chair. When an armrest sprouts from it, it is an armchair. The stool grows sideways, and becomes a bench, or lengthwise and becomes a lounge chair, or even a bed.”
