Monolith Convept, Clock by Negrocobre Design Studio

The concept of “o’clock” is a modern concept created by Emre Bakir et Mustafa Karakus from Negrocobre Design Studio. The intention behind Monolith is to reveal the stereotypes related to time and clocks, and reveal a different aspect of these concepts.
Monolith offers a new perspective on telling the time. This clock has been designed like a fine art work, for if time is universal, so too should be the form of the clock. Time has been an important concept throughout the history of humanity.

The designers aimed to present a sense of the design of the ancient world, the artistic spirit of the Renaissance, and the technological superiority of the modern world. Typically, classic table clocks tell the time in two dimensions. Monolith uses three dimensions. The hours and minutes fold over different planes. The design is akin to an artwork. It can be made in any colour. Its display consists of LEDs, and its surfaces are polished glass or plastic. Monolith offers an alarm function and is powered by batteries. It is suitable to a range of contexts.

This design is a 2010 Red Dot Design Award winner.
