A U.S. art studio called Lead Pencil Studio has created a sculpture on the border between the United States and Canada that consists of a blank space in the shape of a billboard, surrounded by tangled metal. Titled Non-Sign II, the piece was commissioned by the U.S. government.

The artists behind it are Annie Han and Daniel Mihalyo, who’ve won numerous awards for their work over the last decade. The pair carefully twisted metal to give the appearance of a ghost of one of the billboards that populate the area.

Han and Mihalyo told The Stranger that they hope the sculpture will add a bit of awareness to the signage landscape in the border zone, as it flies past the inhabitants of passing cars. It’s located close to Blaine, Washington, if you happen to be in the area and want to investigate further.

Australian design student Yunyeen Yang is the talent behind a neat set of sliced fruit shaped juice cartons by fictional manufacturer, Jooze. Designed as part of a school project, each Jooze packaging is indicative of its flavour inside; a crafty detail encouraging children to consume healthier drinking habits from a young age. Their shape is like half a slice of any round fruit, and they stand on an angle.

The South Pond Pavilion for yoga and other uses at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago, Illinois by Studio Gang Architects, 2010. The project transforms a picturesque urban pond from the 19th century into an ecological habitat buzzing with life. With the design’s improvements to water quality, hydrology, landscape, accessibility, and shelter, the site is able to function as an outdoor classroom in which the co-existence of natural and urban surroundings is demonstrated.

A new boardwalk circumscribing the pond passes through various educational zones that explicate the different animals, plants, and habitat found in each. A pavilion integrated into the boardwalk sequence provides shelter for open-air classrooms on the site. Inspired by the tortoise shell, its laminated structure consists of prefabricated, bent-wood members and a series of interconnected fiberglass pods that give global curvature to the surface.
