Made entirely of local wood, the building provides 47 m2 of living space with a minimal CO2 footprint: local suppliers and local crafts using local long-lasting and recyclable materials manufactured with the precision and care of tyrolese handwork. It can easily be dismantled and rebuilt on a new site, and even more important for nature hideaways: it requires minimum soil sealing.

Developed with a South Tyrolian team, the FINCUBE was created 1200m above sea level near Bozen in Northern Italy, with a brilliant view of the famous Dolomite mountains. The hideaway-innature nomadic housing concept is since recently exhibited as a prototype in Ritten, above Bozen.

The design is minimal, material-orientated, and in close touch with nature – the wooden space with a 360-degree triple glazing is furnished with a second facade layer, producing shade and giving the building a unique overall mushroom-like monoshape.
The horizontal ledges give privacy to the FINCUBE and embed the building into forests, meadows, mountain sides or any nature resorts. The combination of long-lasting design and the option of changing its location after a while make the FINCUBE a flexible home or hideaway and a lifetime companion.

Together with South Tyrolean hotelier Josef Innherhofer, the fincube was also conceptualized as a vision for future hospitality: a temporary FINCUBE village with minimum soil sealing can be placed in the middle of the most beautiful landscapes without permanently altering them. In contrast to all permanent buildings it could be easily changed, extended, scaled down or removed and the area would soon be denaturalized back to normal. These qualities turn the unit into an answer to future needs of flexible and smart tourism.

Technology wise the FINCUBE is a smart house – all vital house-functions are controlled by a central touchpanel.
The supporting structure is made of local larch and the interior is a combination of larch & stone-pine. The 3m-high space is organized in a helical structure: the entrance area blends into a generous open kitchen with an adjacent sofa living space, around the corner one enters the bedroom and further down is the spacious bathroom.
Redefining the conventional office space, Asylum’s forte in sculpting experiential spaces lends a touch of nature to apbcOffices’ latest venture in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the bustling city’s main shopping, entertainment and tourism district, the new serviced office occupies the 16th floor of The Pavilion Tower at 10,473 square feet.Opened in October 2011, the offices were conceptually designed with strong elements of nature, unfolding an experiential story at every corner. Upon stepping into the office, the walls are lined with timber strips, simulating a walk amongst trees, leading the way to the reception desk carved out of natural stone.

Pop-art flower installations sweep across the boardroom, while meetings are rejuvenated in butterfly themed rooms. A unique interpretation of a nature-inspired enclave, the serviced offices are named after different breeds of birds, contributing to a warm ambience and holistic experience for churning out that next big idea. Innovative, boldly creative and punctuated with an element of surprise, Asylum’s design of the space garnered positive feedback during its exclusive preview, with many key industry leaders citing the space to be a “creative, pleasant, soothing, calming and most of all out of the box and
one-of-a-kind serviced office in the whole of Kuala Lumpur.

We believe that space, volume, light and the natural flow around us have a great relevance on the way we feel and behave, so our approach to architecture is to achieve the best possible combination of these essentials in each project. Our designs in architecture are meant for greater interaction, multiple perspectives and contemporary comfort.

Our buildings are not meant to be serious nor heavy, but light and bright, with nature playing a vital role in our designs and in our lives. We are addicted to good architecture and design.

Architrend Architecture has designed this impressive project for Villa T, located on outskirts of Sicilian city of Ragusa. This villa offers incredible views and perspectives, no matter which room you are in. This architecture opens to the outside offering magnificent views.

The context is agricultural, a plateau with sandstone walls to divide the various portions of property. Once marked by the productive outposts of the “masserie”, farms with cultivated fields and cattle, today the Ibleo territory has changed its look. Instead of scattered farmhouses, isolated and divided by farmlands, construction has gradually filled spaces, erasing the network of isolated architectural complexes gathered around courtyards, like ‘pacific forts’.

Nevertheless, the site of this project has partially conserved that precious idea of ‘isolation’, and the whole design comes to grips with this context, constructing a direct relationship with the landscape, faced openly on two sides, while emerging from it thanks to an eloquent contemporary design. The program of the compositional process is that of a large single-family house, alone at the center of a meadow, bordered by the free, linear horizon of the plateau. Here, in the midst of the grassy terrain, treated as virgin land for construction, the architecture stands out clearly as a complete entity with definite limits.

But its borders are not ‘introverted’, they are open to visual enjoyment of the outside world, through the creation of outdoor living spaces, rooms without walls that become parts of the overall solution. The relationship with the context and the sequence of the three stacked floors relies on a sort of continuous architectural ribbon that reinterprets the flavor of the Mediterranean home, developing, bending to form rooms and the roof, outdoor zones raised from the meadow like platforms, porticos and overhangs, balconies and terraces.

A solid facade clad in stone, to the north, is flanked by the harmonious antithesis of the southern and eastern facades, fully glazed and open to the greenery. They reveal the two-storey height of the living area, with the mono-beam staircase leading to the first floor, containing a studio zone and a bedroom. The daytime area is joined to the kitchen, located in the lower volume, while the luminous living and dining area emphasizes the double height of the construction, with its large pitched roof.

The master bedroom zone with bath and closet is located behind the living area. The sequence living-dining-kitchen encounters two outdoor spaces: on one side, facing the living room, a terrace at ground level connects to a recessed patio faced by the underground spaces, with two bedrooms and a den, shaded for cool comfort. Behind the kitchen, connected by a full-height glazing, an external portico is like a room without walls, open to the surrounding lawn. The white stucco and stone facings that wrap the forceful geometric design, highlighted by a red floor marker that interrupts the high corner glazing, the planes that combine, in a dynamic way, around the sloping roof, reveal the pursuit of a ‘possible Mediterranean style’ that pays attention to local history, but without copying, ready for experimentation with new possibilities.

In a small town of Bogotà city, an area known for its security problems and became the shelter of thousands of people that have been displaced from their home towns due to recent conflicts. Mazzanti came with el ‘Bosques de la Esperanza,’ wich means Hope Forest what Mazzanti calls an open project. A project made out of modules that have the potential to grow and adapt to different situations. It consists of a canopy where modules can be added depending on the circumstances.

The Sport Center consists of a 1.744 m2 horizontal surface and a 700 m2 dome of spatial structure, which “evokes a bunch of trees as a symbol of nature, union and hope in the area of Altos de Cazuca”. The dimensions of the canopy are approximately 22.7m x 30.8m, with a perimeter of 138.198m.

Each of the modules is a polyhedron of 12 surfaces, a dodecahedron. These are custom-fabricated and iterate numerous time to form the canopy. The structural canopy functions as a beam plane, supported over the two axes of the columns. The materials used were expanded mesh, round metal pipe and translucent tile. El Equipo de Mazzanti

Kois Associated architects goal was to create an artificial elevated dreamy landscape which combined functionality with aesthetic poetics, a centre which will be the landmark and the backdrop to the city. The emirate of Umm Al Quwain is located just 40 kilometres from Dubai, and is a place of rich history full of ancient villages and archaeological sites, which contrasts Dubai’s architecture.

The project site, located at the fringe of the proposed master plan. The program of the project called for a hybrid of a scientific centre and a conference centre. The scientific centre would promote the sciences and inform about the latest advancements in technology. The conference centre would accommodate conferences and conventions from all over the emirates and the rest of the world. The centre includes conference rooms, library, planetarium, learning centre, lecture theaters, science exhibition spaces, restaurant-bar and shops. The concept was the fusion of three iconic phenomena associated with the dessert, the oasis the whirlwind and the mirage. This image of the menacing and the comforting wrapped in an illusion became the antithesis that would synthesize the character of the project. An oasis is a natural or manmade isolated area of vegetation in a desert, typically surrounding a water source. The location of oases has been of crucial importance for trade and transportation routes in desert areas. An oasis is a destination and a comforting sheltering place within the harshness of the dessert. The association we wanted to create with the use of the imagery of the oasis was to outline the importance of the building for the area and its nodal position in the scientific /technological scene. The water features of the project were incorporated for practical environmental reasons such as to enhance evaporative cooling but also for aesthetic and cultural reasons to emphasize the visual axes, reflect the environment and to re present the life giving purifying aspects of water mentioned in the Qur’an. An oasis is the most common mirage for exhausted travelers of the dessert. A mirage is an optical phenomenon in which light rays are bent to produce a displaced image of distant objects or the sky. The mirage effect was emulated within the project, by the use of sliced perforated skin on the facades of the building which changes appearance during the day as the lighting conditions change. The use of the water features in ground level also assists the mirage effect as it reflects the bottom side of the building obscuring the relationship of ground and building for the spectator. Whirlwind is the formation of a vortex of wind due to instabilities and turbulence created by heating and flow (current) gradients. The whirlwind are the funnel of the building which is part of the environmental strategy of passive ventilation using the stack effect. Apart from their practical use of the funnels also act as visual landmarks and points of reference.

Week’nder by Lazor Office, is the sustainably designed and fabricated modern house, delivered for less. It utilizes the highest quality materials and building standards available, rendered in a casual, approachable, elegant style. Week’nder was fabricated off-site to save waste and reduce the environmental impact associated with site construction. The no-cut design, which conserves material and work, includes 2×6 framing and plywood sheets on concrete piers.

The structure was built off the ground to maintain the existing site; the site has water-permeable gravel in the driveway and irrigation-free native grasses everywhere else.

As the most ‘design flexible’ modern prefabricated home system in the world, you can see that FlatPak components are easily configured to produce unique floor plans, sections and material palettes to suit your specific site and program. Call it “user friendly.”

Sergei Makhno and Vasiliy Butenko have designed the Hollow Restaurant, barely entering, you will feel the merger with nature. Title ´Hollow’ is the key of the interior. The restaurant is divided into two floors. On the first floor – a dining area with a delicious meal that will delight even the most refined tastes, on the second – a lounge zone where improvised gorge creates the effect of comfort and complete security from the outside world.

There you will feel peace, solitude and alienation from the bustle of everyday life. In the design of the hollow decorative elements in the form of flowers are used – and it is not accidentally, as everything in this this place is to meet the aesthetic tastes of the client. Authorial lamps from Vasiliy Butenko complement flowers and remind visitors about the generous gifts of nature. Materials used in the design – wood and stone – give a sense of natural rest and comfort.

The interior has another one pleasant feature. There you can fully devote yourself to reading your favorite book, especially as everything is available: natural light, comfortable chairs, delicious coffee and of course a wide variety of books for every taste. In the Hollow in every detail you will feel the personality, which is so lacking in today’s world.
Yoyogi Village in the Shibuya designed by Wonderwall and other designers is a small commercial development that aims to provide a more eco-conscious alternative to the average Tokyo mall. Yoyogi Village includes an organic Italian restaurant, Code Kurkku, and a music bar where the selection is overseen by Kobayashi and hip DJ/producer Shinichi Osawa. You’ll also find a good coffee shop, Roots & Beat Coffee, alongside a travel agency, art gallery and Urban Research fashion store specializing in ‘pre-organic’ cotton clothing.
‘IMA,’ Prefabricated house designed by Portuguese Architect Mima consists of a square post-and-beam structure completely glazed on all sides, subdivided by modular 1,5mx3m wooden frames. MIMA houses come with additional plywood panels which can be placed on the inside and the outside of the building, for a replacement of any window by a wall in a matter of seconds.

The inside is defined by a regular grid of 1,5m, whose intermediate lines leave gaps for internal walls to be added when needed. Again, in a matter of seconds, a subdivided space can be replaced by an open space or vice versa. Moreover, each side of internal and external walls can have a different color/finishing, which allows a dramatic change through a simple wall rotation.

MIMA’s concept is fundamentally inspired by the traditional Japanese house, the perfect paradigm for lightness, flexibility, comfort and pleasing lines. The restrained order of its standardized building parts appealed to MIMA architects as the hallmark of a deeply rooted culture, confirmed over centuries and easily adaptable to any new development.

MIMA uses prefabricated construction methods, the secret for its quick production and low price. Likewise, traditional Japanese residential post-and-beam construction could be considered inherently a system of prefabrication: it was based on regularized column spacing known as the ken, the infill elements of shoji screens, fusuma panels and tatami mats, prefabricated by individual craftsmen in various locations of Japan could be precisely put together almost like pieces of a puzzle.

The Façade, which seems to emerge from the ground climbing up through the building, as if mimicking the natural ivy surrounding the retaining walls, is made up of two self-supporting layers of steel plates cut with a CNC machine and handcrafted to exact specifications. The facade’s pattern responds to the inside openings, filtering light, shadows, and views that will constantly invade the interior spaces. An atmosphere enriched by the spectrum of subtle changes.
Luxembourg City-based studio Metaform designed a contemporary 4,000 square foot apartment building in Luxembourg.
The sculptural project stands out and contrasts the surrounding neighborhood buildings. The architects developed a 4-storey apartment block combining elements of dynamic and vibrant art with discrete and geometrical architecture.

The project area is of about 370 square meters, which have been efficiently divided into four separate homes: the first floor with its 80 square meters can comfortably host a small family of three, the two smaller studios on the intermediate level are ideal for young couples while the last and most spacious floor of 115 square meters is a stylish and sophisticated duplex, perfect for tenants with extravagant tastes.

The choice of materials contributes to the final sculpture-like character intended for the edifice: by using a black reflective metal to cover the external facade, an intense contrast with the adjacent houses was produced.
Takeshi Hosaka architects has built this single-storey private dwelling in Yamanashi, Japan for a couple and their three children.
The house creates a subtle gradation from outdoors to indoors, integrating the presence of nature into the living space. The south facade features a collapsible transparent surface that can be completely opened to the woods beyond. Interspersedly planted with small trees and shrubs, the partially-sheltered garden space projects natural characteristics of the site into the compounds of the private dwelling.

Although the building has no other windows, natural light enters through skylights atop each of the gables. The reinforced concrete beams funnel natural sunlight into the interior, shifting the atmosphere of the house throughout the day.

Conceived as a series of layers that gradually add more indoor elements, the rectangular layout places the private programs such as the bathroom and bedrooms to the north and communal spaces to the south.
Sweet Enough, importer of sugar free sweets has contracted RED Design Group to create the “Candy Room” in Melbourne Australia. This whimsical space is painted completely white and gives the illusion of a two-dimensional doodle.

Being strongly influenced by the idea of designing a playful, simple and somewhat illusional space for the Candy Room, the exaggeration of a ‘room’ idea was formulated. The application was to use line artwork on white space to represent a room.

Everything including the fixtures is painted in white, while graphically applied line artwork produce the suggestive elements of a room – A kitchen splashback is drawn complete with a boiling pot on the stove or a framed portrait of one of the kids. RED was also responsible for the branding and all the packaging throughout the store. Allowing the space to be predominately white allowed the colours of the confectionery to dress the space. In a sense, the interior design for the Candy Room creates a fantasy and experience of a room without creating one.
