Redefining the conventional office space, Asylum’s forte in sculpting experiential spaces lends a touch of nature to apbcOffices’ latest venture in Kuala Lumpur. Located in the bustling city’s main shopping, entertainment and tourism district, the new serviced office occupies the 16th floor of The Pavilion Tower at 10,473 square feet.Opened in October 2011, the offices were conceptually designed with strong elements of nature, unfolding an experiential story at every corner. Upon stepping into the office, the walls are lined with timber strips, simulating a walk amongst trees, leading the way to the reception desk carved out of natural stone.

Pop-art flower installations sweep across the boardroom, while meetings are rejuvenated in butterfly themed rooms. A unique interpretation of a nature-inspired enclave, the serviced offices are named after different breeds of birds, contributing to a warm ambience and holistic experience for churning out that next big idea. Innovative, boldly creative and punctuated with an element of surprise, Asylum’s design of the space garnered positive feedback during its exclusive preview, with many key industry leaders citing the space to be a “creative, pleasant, soothing, calming and most of all out of the box and
one-of-a-kind serviced office in the whole of Kuala Lumpur.

i29 interior architects designed their new offices for about 80 people. With Tribal DDB their main objective was to create an environment where creative interaction is supported, and to achieve as much workplaces as possible in a new structure with flexible desks and a large open space. All of this while maintaining a work environment that stimulates long office hours and concentrated work. As Tribal DDB is part of an international network a clear identity was required, which also fits the parent company DDB. The design had to reflect an identity that is friendly and playful but also professional and serious. The contradictions within these questions, asked for choices that allow great flexibility in the design.

Situated in a building where some structural parts could not be changed it was a challenge to integrate these elements in the design and become an addition to the whole. i29 searched for solutions to various problems which could be addressed by one grand gesture. At first a material which could be an alternative to the ceiling system, but also to cover and integrate structural parts like a big round staircase. Besides that, acoustics became a very important item, as the open spaces for stimulating creative interaction and optimal usage of space was required.

This led us to the use of fabrics. It is playful, and can make a powerful image on a conceptual level, it is perfect for absorbing sound and therefore it creates privacy in an open space. And we could use it to cover scars of demolition in an effective way. There is probably no other material which can be used on floors, ceiling, walls and to create pieces of furniture and lampshades then felt.

It’s also durable, acoustic, fireproof and environment friendly. Which doesn’t mean it was easy to make all of these items in one material!
i29 always looks for choices that answer to multiple questions at the same time. They tell a conceptual story about the company, the space and the users of the space. They deal with specific practical and functional issues and they have to have some autonomous quality as well. These ‘levels’ are intertwined; one leads you to the other. If you see how smart it serves it purpose practically it leads you to the company. If you see the powerful image that is non-depended, it leads you to the functionality, and round it goes.

We believe that simplicity builds character. Compare it to a human being; strong individuals always have one or few characteristics that stand out. We all know how hard it is to stay focused on the one thing that is most important to you. The same way it is with a design. The result of being very selective is that you have to push the one choice to the limit. It also provides a field of tension, and gives energy in a space without falling into chaos. But more importantly it leaves you with a charismatic environment.

Each individual workplace is incised into the wooden upper surface and covered by a “telephone’-dome in Plexiglas.

The project accommodates the headquarters of two companies in Paris – PONS and HUOT – with totally fifteen executives. Consequently the unit has seven individual rooms for each director and one open-space-office for the remaining eight clerks. In addition there is one (divisible) meeting-room, a common recreational room, a kitchen, rest rooms, and, at the special request of the patron, lush vegetation all over the main space.

The base for the construction was a rotten industrial hall built in the late 19th century with a steel framework typical for the period. It is rumoured that Gustave Eiffel realized it.

To start with, the hall was completely restored. A new self-cleaning glass roof was fitted. The whole substance of the building was put back into the original state.

In fact the project consists of an insertion of a wooden unit in solid oak 1,7 m high, 22 m long and 14 m wide. The entire programme is embodied therein. Each individual workplace is incised into the wooden upper surface and covered by a “telephone’-dome in Plexiglas. The four lateral surfaces contain archives, cloakrooms and the kitchen. Completely embedded in the body are the meeting room, the recreational room and the restrooms. The remaining space is taken up by technical transmission systems (computer, electricity, air condition, heating and water) and also by 18,3 m3 of soil, the bed for eight Ficus Panda trees.

Neither entrance hall nor reception were implemented, since visitors are guided by a peripheral path-system leading to all pertinent rooms. The individual offices are situated on both galleries.

The Modern Studio is a backyard retreat for study, practice, or crafts. The Studio units come in a few basic small sizes and are completely customizable in terms of exterior finishes, window and door placement, and even roof angle. You can choose a modern studio with a flat roof or pick a slanted roof, which may be more appropriate to install solar panels on or to shed snow in the winter.
It is designed and built with a strong commitment to preserving the environment through the efficient use of resources, energy efficiency, and green and sustainable features.

Nothing commercial creative agency have asked Studio Joost van Bleiswijk to create their new office. Nothing could have been a better name to come up with a modification of waste and low cost materials into a durable, timeless office design. Designer Joost van Bleiswijk discussed with art director Alrik Koudenburg the use of cardboard to do the complete interior, but with a grandeur that suits this award winning company.

Joost van Bleiswijk explains more:
Using the now well known adopted technique No Screw, No Glue, that made me known through out the design world, I started to create three main volumes into one space. A boardroom, a grand office and a library. The use of the No Screw, No Glue technique on a scale I never explored before and its strong lines, allowed me to apply details, volumes and furniture that would make the space into one total concept. Using over 500 sq m of CNC cut cardboard left me with over 1500 element that did slot together with the need of neither screws nor glue…

I included all the elements of a classic office space, such as a coffee corner, boardroom, creative space, working tables, storage space, book cabinet, brainstorm area and so on and made them into a complete design. By creating a variety of spaces within the whole space, the perfect spot to do the work that needs to be done can always be found. By using the same principle and the recognizable, monumental and ornamental design style that is so typical for my designs, I turned the office design into one single piece. As the world of advertising is an ever changing and fast world, I created a timeless space, with my recognizable and visible love for classic lines and styles.
The monumental piece allows the placement of items that are needed to work in the office.
The result is a peaceful decor that inspires and provides a homelike atmosphere.

Based in Amagansett, this art studio has been designed by MB Architecture The artist had a limited budget of $60,000 to work with and wanted something close to home that was both functional as a working space, but would also be inviting and reflective.

Inside, bright white walls act as a blank canvas for new artwork and ample daylighting streams in through the large windows on either end and the exterior is painted grey for a sophisticated look and a way to blend the container into the wooded environment.

The foundation for the studio is built into the earth with 9′ walls and acts as the lower level and work space for the studio. Two 40′ (9′6″) high cube shipping containers were then set on top of the foundation to create a two-story double wide structure. About 75% of the floors of the containers were cut away to create the tall ceilings with lots of natural light flooding in from the high windows.

The mobile office contains a bathroom, a kitchen, interior lighting, a bed and several niches for storage. The nose can be opened automatically and functions as a kind of porch. It is easily transportable and can also be used as an office, guest room or garden house.

The project took 18 months and the structure is predominantly made of polyester.
This space saver and eco-friendly building can be an exhibition area for companies that are engaged in high technology in construction, medicine and healthy lifestyle. In addition, the eco-building also carries an eye-catching outer appearance making this building to be one of the tourist attractions in the future.
The self-sufficient building will make use of several energy-saving technologies and will generate solar and wind energy from renewable energy generators incorporated in the design. The building has been designed for areas in the warm climate zones, where harvesting sunlight for both energy and power is much more practical.

Located in Groningen, the NL architects SOZAWE will be home to office spaces, a large interior public space and 215 parking spaces.
The concrete floor of the building will act as a thermal mass to keep the building cool during summer and warm during the cooler winter months. The façade of the building is designed to maximize natural lighting, which reduces the overall energy consumption of the building.

The stepped volume typology for the office building creates numerous cross relations between floors. in total there are 9 office floors. each floor has access to an outdoor space that will feature trees and a view over the city.
