The Ashiato sandals look like ordinary Japanese ge-ta (thetraditional wooden footgear) from the top, but leave behind animal footprints in their wake. The pawprint designs are carved in relief on the bottom of the sole. Made by Kiko+, an interior design firm that turned its creative minds towards kids’ toys, the clever sandals can come in 5 different animal prints: cat, gecko, owl, monkey, and zaurus (which seems to be a dino-shaped foot). Ashiato Sandals come in 5 different styles/colors: Cat (pink), Gecko (blue), Owl (yellow), Monkey (orange) and Zaurus (green).

Claudia Civilleri’s Up Shoes are based on an initial concept of shoes molded in polyurethane. It was then decided that better stability and ergonomics were the goal, so a different process was adopted. Using an embroidery machine from the seventies that was found in a basement, Civilleri sewed strips of two-tone leather to create channels for stuffing one of the colours in order to create bulges. This was done to imitate the initial swelling obtained by using the plastic materials.

Temporary Night purse by Premrudee Leehacharoenkul is based on a rigid tubular form made of 32 thin tubes of Alutex, an aluminized fiberglass fiber product. T he tubes are bound together by embroidery and silk to form a single panel, which is then rolled to form the cylinder. Two disks form the ends; the top is left open.

Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce came up with a pretty cool concept for his first collaboration with Brazilian footwear label Melissa. The futuristic plastic ankle boots above can be easily customized with the help of a pair of scissors, and transformed into a pair of flats or even sandals.

Custom Skully Vans by Dan Springer

Dan Springer made these custom Vans slip-ons for a group show at Omy gallery in Toronto. The Custom Skully Vans are velcroed in and interchangeable so you can switch up colors.

I am starting with some slick ladies black patent leather Vans I have found. This is a pre-order to let me know how many and what sizes I need to purchase to start making them. My plan is to include 3 interchangeable tongue options: white, grey and pink. Pink stitching and pink sole. These will sell for $185 US… not cheap, but they will be limited to 15 pairs (first ordered, first served). I will take orders with a $50 deposit (balance due upon completion of shoes). Accepted orders will be completed by Halloween 2009.

Sneaker by Zaha Hadid for Lacoste

Lacoste have partnered with the internationally renown Zaha Hadid Architects to release a capsule collection of footwear. The Pritzker Prize winning deconstructivist architect used a digitized version of the iconic Lacoste crocodile logo as a basis to explore surfaces with repeated patterns.

“The design expression behind the collaboration with Lacoste footwear allows the evolution of dynamic fluid grids”, explains Hadid. “When wrapped around the shape of a foot, these expand and contract to negotiate and adapt to the body ergonomically. In Doing so a landscape emerges, undulating and radiating as it merges seamlessly with the body”.

World-renowned designer, artist, illustrator and ceramicist Jame Hayon is now stepping out with all the right colours into the world of shoes.

“I wanted to find a form that stylized the foot, like the tap dancing shoes. I have always liked the character of dance shoes because they remind me of a music-hall. I wanted to make a simple shoe but one that had character, in solid colours but that were special enough to give identity to a way of dressing. If for me, and also for many others, glasses are important in creating the personality of a person, I think that shoes should be so too”.

Apple Logos Shoes

I’m not a huge sneakers addict, but I have to admit the Apple Logo Shoes make me drool. These awesome shoes were distributed by the company to their employees in the mid 90′s. No need to say that these are the ultimate collector sneakers. They should make a Microsoft version to step in dog poo.
