“Soap Flakes,” Soap Dispenser by Nathalie Stämpfli

Soap Flakes by Nathalie Stämpfli works like a pump dispenser and grates a small amount of soap into your hand when you pump the handle.

Today, most of the soap we use is liquid soap, which contains a lot of water. Block soap instead is more concentrated and therefore has some ecological benefits: You don’t transport unnecessary water around. In place of plastic bottles you can simply use paper for packaging. The solid blocks can easily be piled and allow a greater space efficiency in a truck.

Function Tiles by Droog

“Function Tiles” has been created by Droog Designers Peter van der Jagt, Erik-Jan Kwakkel, and Arnout Visser, it makes the tiles work more functionally, thus the name “Function Tiles”. Based on a familiar size and common module, each of these can be used to replace an existing tile in a given bathroom – a tissue dispenser slots in place of one while vents, hangers or new drains can be swapped in for others.
These tiles let you transform a small bathroom space into an interactive, multi-functional place with secret compartments, hidden functions, magnetic surfaces, built-in gadgets and more. We love the surprise of these guys and, of course, the fact that they give you a little additional storage in what is normally unused space.

Bathrooms, spa and air-conditioning by Duravit AG, Hornberg

This bathrooms, spa and air-conditioning created by Duravit AG won the red dot design award. Following a purist form language and designed to impart a strong sense of “warmth”, this sauna turns into an inviting space within a space, and thus clearly follows the demands of clarity, harmony and structure. Similar to the Indian tradition, this sauna too becomes an integrative part of everyday life.

The design concept is sophisticated to the last detail – there is nothing that disturbs the intended image of spiritual harmony. Free from directly visible technology, the sauna is positioned in the middle of a room; all units are hidden and mounted on a pull-out carrier. The control system, heater with ventilation unit and the evaporator are always accessible but never in view. The control concept too follows its Indian model of inspiration: in the same way as the age-old ceremony started by heating a stone in a fire and carrying it with a stag’s antler into a tent, the sauna session also starts with a “stone” – in the form of a hand-held remote control with a clearly laid-out display.

Ballerina Bathtub by Gustaw Lange

Ballerine bathtub by Gustaw Lange is a creative showering system that compactly combines a tub and standing shower. Drag the end of it upwards and it will spiral itself around you and reveal the shower head at the top. The bathtub stays as a cup where the water will run down. I like the lines of it, and it would fit perfectly into a house where design is at the center of things. Now all I have to do is make sure there are no windows in the bathroom…

Boudoir in the Bath by THG & Chantal Thomass

THG and Thomass revisit the tradition of the boudoir with ultra-refined and super-chic fixtures crafted from white porcelain and decorated with delicate silver borders.Infusing her penchant for sensual textures, feminine details and lush materials into stunning designs for the bath, Thomass seamlessly transitioned from brassiere to basin. The new line, Poemes, brought to life by THG, is the result of a brilliant collaboration of décor and couture, a union Thomass sees as a logical transition. “Since I create intimate women’s clothes, and the bathroom is all about intimacy,” Thomass explains, “the merger made sense.” Much like her fashion ideology – which emphasizes the beauty and sensuality of the female form, and the seductive details that epitomize glamorous lingerie – Thomass’ design perspective gives similar attention to the wants and needs of women.

I ♥ Yu, Naoshima Bathhouse by Shinro Ohtake

♥_Yu_Naoshima_Bathhouse_Shinro_Ohtake1

The Naoshima Bath house was opened on July 26, 2009 under the name of “I♥湯 (I love you).” Conceived by the artist Shinro Ohtake, this charming name softens the hearts of the customers before using the bathroom.
The project is particularly interesting because it blurs the distinction between art and practical daily life (the bathhouse can be used by locals, who pay just 300 yen rather than the standard 500 yen entrance fee to use it), between private corporations and public works, and between inside and outside.

The bottoms of the baths are lined with stones and collages of found images and shunga erotic prints that come in and out of view with the movement of the water.
