We also really like to travel and sleep.

Rather than using wood for the design, which involves a ton of cutting and wasting of trees, Shawn decided to use steel, which is durable and easy to recycle. Each bookshelf takes one week to produce and every process including the welding and bending is done by hand.

Description from the designer:

This piece of furniture features a wooden layer folded in the manner of an accordion, wrapped around a rectangular unit. The wooden layer is made of lamellas of various veneers, fixed to a textile base material. The combination of materials shows the wood in a new, surprising light, as it can be moved similarly to a piece of fabric. The cabinet is playfully opened by folding it.

Colombia-based Malagana Design have designed the Equilibrium Bookcase. It is a unique furniture piece that catches attention by creating a sense of amusement and surprise. While its compartments seem to float in the air, Equilibrium can hold over 120 Lbs of weight and its different modules allow to keep books and magazines organized in a natural tilted position that eliminates the need for bookends. The acclaimed bookcase comes offered with a combination of natural walnut veneer and one of three color options: White, Celeste and Graphite. Specific custom colors can be matched upon request. It can be conveniently disassembled to fit inside the two larger modules and it ships in one easy to handle box. It can be assembled in just a few minutes without the need of tools or hardware.

Paris based Design studio “SAMAL design” presents the preview of “Parallel world collection”, which will be presented on Milan design week (14-19 April 2010, Fuori Salone)
The collection consists of 8 elements, 2 library, 4 shelves and two lamps. Storing system realized in MDF, lamps in semi-transparent plastic with anchor wall attaching system.
The collection has certain philosophical meaning as it reminds us about possible existing of parallel worlds, so the presented pieces are partly hiden in nowhere, or “held by another world”…
