Michel Bussien’s Growing Chair

Swiss designer Michel Bussien’s Growing Chair evokes pertinent ideas for the 21st century: nature trapped within the confines of man, manicured at his whim, or a specimen preserved behind glass – like fossils in a museum.

Mrs. Dalloway by Nika Zupanc

Who said fashion and cooking doesn’t go hand in hand had better think again. Zupanc designed this mini hot plate for Gorenje, a Slovenian appliance maker. She deliberately styled it after a fashion accessory, and named it Mrs. Dalloway, a reference to a Virginia Woolf novel about a woman’s party preparations.

Luau Portable Lamp

If you’re planning on spending any time lounging around outdoors this summer, you might want to consider these portable indoor/outdoor lamps.

“When Luau is lifted from its base, the lamp automatically lights and the glow lasts for six to 10 hours. Increase or decrease the amount of light by spinning the lamp with the bottom against your palm. At its brightest setting, Luau delivers warm ambient light, and can be placed on a surface or hung from a hook or tree branch on its stainless steel handle. Made out of impact-resistant polyethylene with a water resistant housing, it uses energy-efficient LEDs. It comes complete with an LED pack and a rechargeable 1500mAh battery. The lamp can be used while recharging, and the base has an indicator light that changes from red to green when Luau is fully charged”.

DB Fletcher Capstan Ilona Expanding Table

It is a round table, which at the press of a button, amazingly doubles its seating capacity and, just as astonishingly, remains truly circular. Very importantly it stores its expansion leaves within itself. Existing tables can seat six persons when small, and twelve or more when expanded, but there are other design possibilities. Operation, which has been described as ‘pure magic’ by Boat International magazine, really is a sight to behold and extremely quick, it taking mere seconds to complete an entire expansion or reduction cycle.
