Pick Up Planter by Jason Phillips

Pick Up Planter is a game of physical and mental skill. A bundle of sticks are held in a loose bunch and release on a table top, falling in random disarray. It is the basis for Pick Up Planter, which marries an amorphic vessel with a seemingly random ring of rods. Although the appearance is random, the way the configuration is achieved is quite mathematical. Read More…

Ashiato Sandals by Kiko+

The Ashiato sandals look like ordinary Japanese ge-ta (thetraditional wooden footgear) from the top, but leave behind animal footprints in their wake. The pawprint designs are carved in relief on the bottom of the sole. Made by Kiko+, an interior design firm that turned its creative minds towards kids’ toys, the clever sandals can come in 5 different animal prints: cat, gecko, owl, monkey, and zaurus (which seems to be a dino-shaped foot). Candle that Smells Like the New York Times by Tobias Wong

What a great idea to create a candle that smells like The New York Times. The candle is meant to give off the scent of newsprint by combining “hints of guaiacwood, cedar, musk, spice, with a powdery note and velvet nuance.

The designer-artist Tobias Wong, who passed away in 2010, thought of himself, more than anything, as an observer. With a clever wit and ingenious clarity, he honed in on the icons, obsessions and desires of contemporary culture and appropriated them in objects that are both resonant and beautiful. One of his last concepts was The New York Times candle. Within the current fascination with scents and, especially, experimental scents, Wong proposed producing a candle with the fragrance of newsprint inspired by The New York Times, an institution he greatly admired and with which he had a longstanding relationship. This project, though in progress, was never actualized.

iCufflinks by Adafruit

“Adafruit” just released the iCufflinks, handsome, battery powered glowing cufflinks that pulse at the same speed as the Macbook’s “sleep” light. What’s really interesting is that the cufflinks are open source so you can download the circuit board files, the schematics, the CAD files, and the source code. Adafruit encourages other people to reprogram and hack the cufflinks to the pattern of their choice.

It seems that you could also switch out the color of the LED and mix it up a bit, but if you want to stay true to the Mac look, you should keep using that white LED.
