1938 Hispano-Suiza Dubonnet Xenia

Xenia  hot metallic beauty is the 1938 Hispano-Suiza Dubonnet Xenia. The car was based on the Hispano-Suiza H6, and had a custom-built suspension that was later licensed to Alfa Romeo, Simca, and finally sold to GM. Each wheel was mounted on a single arm extending forward from kingpins at the end of the axle, while sealed, oil-lubricated coil springs and shock absorbers ensured a smooth ride. Hallmark of the car of course appears to be the hand-built coachwork by Jacques Saoutchik, which makes this an absolutely droolworthy vehicle. The Xenia is currently on display at the Mullin Automotive Museum.

The World’s First Surfboard with Integrated Technology by Pukas & Tecnalia

Developed by Pukas and Tecnalia, this surfboard isn’t just beautifully designed. It’s also jam-packed with gadgetry. By stowing a gyroscope, accelerometer, GPS, compass, and more on board, it lets surfers measure everything from how fast they took the last wave to how vertical they got. Or in my case, just how hard that last wipe-out hit. Read More…

“EGO,”Electric Semi Submarine by Raonhaje

“EGO,” by Raonhaje is the world’s first compact semi submarine that doesn’t needs extensive training to be on your own in your underwater excursion. This battery powered boat-cum-submarine can be operated like a car, which explains its electric-car-like looks. An electronic accelerator pedal is applied instead of a throttle lever in the boats to work like the accelerator pedal of a the car. You can control the navigation by adding the direction switch.

The boat is piloted like a car—there’s an acceleration pedal as opposed of a throttle—meaning that you don’t need much special training to drive one around. Its battery-powered, with each charge giving you six to ten hours and a top speed of four knots, and it’s currently being shown off at the Miami boat show.

The Snow Cycle

This winter snow bicycle or snow cycle was Designed in Oberndorf, Austria, and is actually the snow bicycle that set the Guinness World Record for the longest vertical drop of 107,400′ in 11 hours and can reach top speeds of 66 mph. The latest version of this winter snow bicycle or “sit-ski,” features in-line, twin-skis and a powder-coated steel frame as well as a front elastomer/spring suspension that assists riders in initiating turns with the front ski, controlled with an adjustable t-bar steering column.

The Snow Cycle uses two main front and back skis for steering, with foot-mounted blades for stabilization. Luckily, a padded seat is also included, should you hit any debris and/or children. Steering is accomplished with an adjustable t-bar (and a good sense of balance). And in case you were worried, Hammacher Schlemmer assures that the ride “withstands the battering of snow, ice, and meltwater.” Phew! This sounds much more durable than my cardboard and glass sled from last year. If you can manage to stay on the thing, it looks like it would be a hell of a good time.

RA DBR2 by Rizk Auto

Once in a while, a unique creation comes along and takes the best of both worlds and melds classic cars appeal and technology together into one beautiful, advanced machine. The RA DBR2 Auto is built around a state-of-the-art carbon-fiber tub and aluminum honeycomb monocoque chassis that weighs a feather-like 100 kgs (220 lbs), overlaid with carbon-fiber body panels lined with Nomex. Power will come from a far less exotic Jaguar straight-six or V12 engine, or a LS3 V8 engine borrowed from Corvette. Also quite earthly is the 5-speed manual box for the Jaguar engines. A 6-speed manual and automatic are on offer with the LS3 V8.
Price for the model pictured here is 180,000 US dollars, or 128,000 euros.
