Providence Bench by Matthias Pliessnig
Providence created by Matthias Pliessnig is a bench entirely made of steam-bent White Oak. Matthias wanted to make a form which creates a physical conversation between the people using it and the form itself.

His technique focuses on the process of steam-bending wood which he learned while building a boat. The wood is air -dried rather than kiln-dried, providing better flexibility while still maintaining enough moisture, then cuts the wood into strips and put them inside a tube filled with steam. After 10 min he pulls the strips out and bends them into desired shape. The dried wood become very sturdy. his seats appear to cradle the body magically bending but not breaking.
