BMW Gina: A New Visionary Concept

GINA, which stands for “Geometry and Functions in N’ Adaptations” is an inspiring new car concept from German manufacturer BMW. Its exterior is entirely made out of textile fabric that’s pulled around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The core of this little beast is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change its shape beneath the fabric skin. The headlights, for instance, can be exposed or hidden by the car’s skin just like blinking eyes, and the hood opens from the center as the fabric parts to expose the engine.Impressive, huh? But wait until you discover the interior, where BMW designers have made visible only the instruments that are required at a certain time, while the rest of the time the same fabric interior “blinks” them out of view. Don’t get too excited yet as the car is just a concept, meant to display the talent of BMW’s designers and engineers. But if this baby is ever to be produced, I will have to find a quick way to become a millionaire.

Watch a cool video of the GINA after the jump.

Whirlpool’s Green Kitchen Concept

Whirlpool has showcased its futuristic version of a “green” kitchen. The concept is designed to redistribute 60% of the water and heat generated from the various kitchen appliances to fuel other appliances or functions.

An example would be using the heat from the refrigerator’s compressor to provide hot water. The basic idea is to create an “kitchen eco-system,” modeled after nature’s own cycle, which, theoretically, should boast up to 70% energy efficiency over ordinary kitchens — yielding up to 24% in money savings.

Ford Airstream Concept 2007

ford2-airstream-concept-2007.jpg

The Ford Airstream Concept, unveiled on January 7th, is a crossover vehicle that borrows its styling cues from streamlined, aluminum shells of the classic Airstream trailers. It is inspired by the iconic aluminum-skinned trailers of Airstream, a company that has become a symbol of travel on U.S. highways and byways.

The system, called HySeries Driv, is powered by a 336-volt lithium-ion battery pack at all times and has a range of 25 miles on a full electric power. Once the battery pack is depleted by about 40 percent, the hydrogen-powered fuel cell begins generating electricity to recharge the batteries, increasing range another 280 miles, for a total driving range of more than 300 miles.

Not For Food Concept by Berloni

berloni-kitchen-not-for-food-2.jpg

Berloni wanted a concept that would embody the evolution of its brand since 1959; from being the market leader in kitchens, to a company that can give consumers a complete range of furniture for the entire home.

Not For Food isn’t just a kitchen, it’s also a space for relaxing or it can even be used as a home office. Formal innovation and technological aspects are integrated in the design; they are using composite materials such as carbon fiber. The concept integrated furniture system gives ‘users’ a place to relax in a spacious, curvaceous sofa, listen to music, work on the Internet and watch TV.
