Camper Shoe Store in Lyon by Studio Makkink Bey

Studio Makkink & Bey were inspired by basic walking movements for the design of a new concept store for Camper in Lyon. Movements forward, upward and downward are shaped in staircase pedestals, stools or stepladders and outlined in bright red lines on the stairs, walls and floors. The stairs represent the conjunction of separate places. While performing as a place to meet, sit on or pass through, they expand places and establish rhythm, depth and infinity of spaces. This is the studios first cooperation with Camper as part of the Together Project.

Starbucks Coffee Decorated with 2,000 Wooden Sticks

This Starbucks based in Fukuoka, Japan, is decorated with 2,000 wooden sticks, woven into the walls and ceilings.

The building is made of 2,000 stick-like parts in the sizes of 1.3m – 4m length and 6cm section. Total length of the sticks reached as far as 4.4km. We had experimented the weaving of sticks for the project of Chidori and GC Prostho Museum Research Center, and this time we tried the diagonal weaving in order to bring in a sense of direction and fluidity. Three sticks are joined at one point in Chidori and GC, while in Starbucks four steps come to one point because of the diagonal – a more complicated joint.

7th Street Residence by Pulltab Design

This beautiful apartment located in new york and built by interior designers ’Pulltab Design‘ is a haven of peace and zen in the middle of the crowd.

The owners of this duplex apartment, located on a beautiful tree lined street in the East Village, retained Pulltab Design to create a unique living environment for a young family of four. As a starting point, the clients requested that their 2,400 square foot apartment be selectively renovated and that the new design revolve around not only creative architectural additions but also the thoughtful selection of free standing furniture and lighting. In the schematic design phase, initial conversations revolved around modern masters such as Geoffrey Bawa, Carlo Scarpa and Richard Neutra.

Based on these conversations, it became apparent that the new design should strive to create a warm and open living environment with unique handcrafted detailing. Materials such as stained concrete, American black walnut, bronze and steel were selected along with modernist finishes, including hand applied active patinas, true pigment paints and high gloss lacquer surfaces.

Chevron House, West London by Andy Martin Architects

Chevron House, West London designed by Andy Martin Architects is inspired by the architecture of the existing elegantly proportioned spaces, the design sets out to exaggerate, by scaling the space by removing walls, and attaching new space to create a large Edwardian warehouse on each of the three levels. The ground floor, the public level is essentially one space which is divided only by the use of colour and material. On the second and third levels, the private floors, bedrooms merge into bathrooms and visa versa.

The rear of the property has new extensions off both the living and kitchen reaching into the garden to absorb the light from the south. The client’s brief to use colour extensively was applied in such that the walls and ceilings are left light in colour (off white) and that only elements or interventions (joinery etc) would be strongly coloured giving the house a lighter atmosphere with greater sense of perspective. The stunning architecture of these beautiful houses and London hotels are truly becoming one of a kind. Kitchen With Folding Facade by dmvA Architecten

The challenge dmvA Architecten was to turn the kitchen in an existing art nouveau extension of a 19th-century townhouse into a multi purpose family space that can be transformed easily into a film-screening or a meeting room.

The panels simply close to hide the kitchen , making functional way for a truly multi functional area. The worktop cantilevers out from the rear wall and hovers like a magic tick ready to be used as a work surface, dining table or desk.

Office 04 by I29 Interior Architects

i29 interior architects designed their new offices for about 80 people. With Tribal DDB their main objective was to create an environment where creative interaction is supported, and to achieve as much workplaces as possible in a new structure with flexible desks and a large open space. All of this while maintaining a work environment that stimulates long office hours and concentrated work. As Tribal DDB is part of an international network a clear identity was required, which also fits the parent company DDB. The design had to reflect an identity that is friendly and playful but also professional and serious. The contradictions within these questions, asked for choices that allow great flexibility in the design.

Situated in a building where some structural parts could not be changed it was a challenge to integrate these elements in the design and become an addition to the whole. i29 searched for solutions to various problems which could be addressed by one grand gesture. At first a material which could be an alternative to the ceiling system, but also to cover and integrate structural parts like a big round staircase. Besides that, acoustics became a very important item, as the open spaces for stimulating creative interaction and optimal usage of space was required. Read More…
